I finally found that movie with that last scene which totally moved me when the school showed to us in Secondary School.
In the 21st century, genetic engineering makes possible the creation of biologically superior human specimens ("valids"), who then grow to positions of power and prestige. Would-be astronaut Vincent (Ethan Hawke) born the old-fashioned way, can only hope for a janitorial position at the elite Gattaca Corporation--until he buys the blood, urine, and identity of a perfect but paralyzed athlete. But a murder in the company's ranks attracts the attention of a detective who threatens to sniff Vincent out.
I just found the last words of the male lead totally, totally, overwhelmingly saddening. It's like, he's utterly alone in the whole world.
Vincent: They used to say that a child conceived in love has a greater chance of happiness. They don't say that anymore.
Vincent: [narrating] I belonged to a new underclass, no longer determined by social status or the color of your skin. No, we now have discrimination down to a science.
He went for that launch of a lifetime, which was an impossible dream for him until he decided to go against the entire world. Committed suicide in space.
Vincent: [voiceover] For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home.
We are just stardust.
And life is BEAUTIFUL.
I love the UNIVERSE.
And this is the Giver of all life on Earth.
And I LOVE the Universe.
